Description
The project was a comprehensive overhaul, involving the complete teardown of the existing porch and the construction of a brand new one. The redesigned porch boasts two custom-made sliding glass doors and a single man door, featuring a warm pine interior and a durable metal exterior. It's further enhanced by Cedar post and beam wraps, accented with an array of pine trim, and finished with a tongue and groove pine ceiling for a touch of rustic elegance.
Methods
The interior received a coat of Benjamin Moore Advance waterborne alkyd, and the exterior was painted with Benjamin Moore Aura Exterior acrylic, both applied with a brush and roller. To prevent any cracking, elastomeric caulking was applied on both the interior and exterior. The cedar wrapping of the beams and posts were crafted using straightforward woodworking joint techniques, wood glue, and pocket hole screws to reduce face nailing. This careful construction ensures that the joints remain intact, avoiding cracks or gaps as the structure naturally expands and contracts over time, resulting in a sleek, "metal-like" finish.
