My name is Lewis Swayne, and I am the sole owner of Swayne Construction. I established my business in 2021, initially undertaking remodeling projects while transitioning between full-time positions. In August 2023, I committed to operating my business on a full-time basis, a decision I have wholeheartedly embraced ever since.
What I Do
I operate as a Self-Performing Contractor, which entails personally executing all project tasks without relying on employees or external subcontractors, except for specialized services like plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and custom installations such as countertops.

My Story
Work History
I started my career in the construction industry at the age of 15, where I gained initial experience as a concrete laborer working for a family acquaintance during the summer months until I turned 18. Following my graduation, I transitioned to assisting my grandparents, particularly my grandfather, in carpentry tasks. Under his guidance, I acquired fundamental skills in the craft. Subsequently, I pursued further growth by joining an Amish framing company as a carpenter apprentice.
During my tenure of a year and a half with the company, we worked on various projects involving the construction of houses, pole barns, apartments, and cabins for a Catholic youth camp in Centerburg, focusing on wood framing. The time I spent there was invaluable in terms of learning and experience. In 2019, I moved on to join a custom home builder specializing in million-dollar residences. In this role, I mostly engaged in outdoor activities such as framing, siding, and decking. I had the opportunity to contribute to the construction of remarkable homes and witness impressive architectural feats.
Subsequently, from 2020 to 2023, I broadened my experience by collaborating with multiple remodeling companies while undertaking intermittent projects.
Personal Experiences
Over the years, I have worked for a fair number of companies, gaining a comprehensive understanding of the industry from all angles. Regrettably, I have observed the industry's significant decline, particularly impacting homeowners and employees. As someone that is passionate about construction and dedicated to achieving excellence in my work., I find it challenging to witness employers exploiting both employees and unsuspecting homeowners. Such practices do not align with my values, which is why I have chosen my current path. Through my own business endeavors, I aim to foster a different approach that better represents the person I am.
The construction field offers ample opportunities for creativity, and my skill set enables me to explore endless possibilities. While financial gain is not my sole objective in business, I am driven by my desire for enriching experiences, overcoming challenges, and building meaningful connections. My motivation stems from my dedication to being a good worker, learning and improving, and always doing what's right.
Why I Love What I do
I have a strong passion for problem-solving and enjoy spending hours to meticulously analyze various tasks in order to find solutions or enhance their efficiency. It doesn't matter if I'm doing laundry or building a space shuttle, I often become deeply intrigued by a wide array of subjects. The realm of construction offers a continuous stream of opportunities for growth, presenting a myriad of new technologies, techniques, and challenges on a daily basis.
From making complex structural designs based on precise calculations to crafting elaborate plans from the ground up, my work involves thorough research, experimentation, and testing of different hypotheses, leading to a sense of fulfillment through continuous learning. In addition, I have met some of the nicest homeowners, often accompanied by their delightful pets, which even further reinforces my appreciation for my profession.
